Timeline for Puppy Veterinary Care 

Welcome to Marschall Road Animal Hospital and congratulations on your new puppy!  Here is some information about our Free Initial Puppy Exam. During this exam, our trained and knowledgeable Doctors and Technicians will dedicate time to answer your questions and help solve your puppy mysteries. The doctor will perform a Complimentary Complete Physical Exam to verify your puppy is healthy. We will cover the upcoming care, such as Vaccinations,  testing,  deworming, Spaying or Neutering, and other preventive care. If you would like to see where our surgeries happen or where your lab test are run, take our tour Behind the Scenes.  In addition to physical exam, other topics covered are basic puppy behavior, house training, exercise, toys, nutrition, grooming, preventive care, and much more. If you would like a complimentary demo on nail trimming or ear cleaning, just ask us!  As an added perk, all our clients also have free access to our online Petly Patient Portal.

Puppy Exams and Timeline for Care following Free Initial Exam

8 weeks old

• Wellness Exam
• DHP Vaccination (1st of 3)
• Bordetella vaccination
• De-worming
• Heartworm prevention dose
• Fleas & Tick prevention

12 weeks old

• Wellness Exam
• DHP Vaccination (2nd of 3)
• LYME vaccination (1st of 2)
• Leptospirosis Vaccine (1st of 2 if applies)
• Follow-up Stool Test for intestinal parasites
• Heartworm prevention dose
• Fleas & Tick Prevention

16 weeks old

• Wellness Exam
• DHP Vaccination (3rd of 3)
• LYME vaccination (2nd of 2)
• Leptospirosis Vaccine (2nd of 2 if applies)
• Rabies including Rabies Tag & Certificate (get license from City)
• Heartworm prevention dose (OK to pick up doses for rest of year if no dose changes)
• Fleas & Tick Prevention (OK to pick up doses for rest of year if no dose changes)

6 months old

• Spay or Neuter
• Microchip ID
• Change diet from Puppy to Adult Food in most cases

Adult Dogs

• Annual Wellness Exam
• 3 Year Distemper (DHP)
• 3 Year Rabies Vaccine 
• Annual Vaccinations (Lyme, Bordetella, Lepto)
• Annual Heartworm Profile (including 4DX Tick Panel & Mini Profile)
• Annual Stool Test for intestinal worms
• Yearly Heartworm Prevention &  Flea & Tick Prevention
• Monitor for Weight Control and reduce calories if needed
• Monitor for Dental care and possible Dental Cleaning/Polishing/ X-rays
• Monitor Life Stage Changes (dogs transition to senior care around 7 years old)
