Keep Those Chompers Clean!

Dental Standards of Care

How often do any of us look in our pet's mouth?  Probably not enough! We may notice bad breath and build up on the teeth, but what does that mean and what needs to be done about it?  Join us on this refresher on Pet Dental Care or Contact Us at 952-445-7956 with questions.  Our Staff is happy to assist you!

Periodontal Disease is a painful inflammatory condition in which bacteria attack the gums, teeth, and jaw.  It results in bad breath, sore gums, and tooth loss. If left unchecked, bacteria from the mouth can even enter the blood stream and effect major organs. Routine care can help to prevent periodontal disease.  Many clients report that their pet's peppier and more energetic following a dental, when bacteria and infection have removed.

At our veterinary office we commonly perform Professional Dental Cleaning and Polishing, with Digital Dental X-rays,Charting, and Oral Exam included with all treatments. A Professional Cleaning makes all the difference in keeping those teeth clean and keeping your pet healthy.  Often times the Digital X-Rays reveal problems below the surface of the gums that cannot be detected by physical examination only, such as tooth abscesses, infection, and damaged roots. Our doctors and technicians are also trained in advanced dental treatments and are equipped to handle tooth extractions and oral surgery.  View our Surgical Standards of Care and learn about anesthesia and surgery in pets

Our Staff is also experienced in working with Senior Patients. Having pets of our own, we understand the concerns associated with anesthetizing an older pet. We emphasize safety measures such as pre-treatment exam, pre-anesthetic blood work, IV catheters, fluid therapy, anesthetic monitoring by a Certificated Technician and pain medication.

After your pet's dental procedure, a technician will cover aftercare instructions detailing follow-up care and preventive home care, including a printed version of the aftercare directions. These instructions can also be uploaded to our Patient Portal so you can view them prior to picking your pet up. Now that the teeth are clean, a preventive home care brushing plan is recommended, using brushing and specially formulated pet-safe toothpaste.
